Fall A Time to Rest

I don't know about you, but I need some rest.  Summer has been busy.  And did I mention HOT!! It is September 30th and still in the 90's.

There are days that we never feel we can take time to really rest and Mary and Martha intrigue me. Always have! I want to think I'm a Martha, because I love to cook and have people in my home for dinners but I'm also a Mary because I LOVE to study and some days I can't get enough of the good stuff. It's just gravy!  If you want to read Luke 10:38-42 feel free but I'll break it down for you.

Let’s first take a look at Martha – Martha was cumbered (KJV) or distracted (NKJV) which was translated from the greek word meaning to be mentally distracted and overly occupied, too busy about a thing.  Then Martha asked the Lord if he didn’t care that her sister didn’t help her and first of all he spoke her name 2 times and said you are worried and troubled – greek for troubled here is thorybazo which means a confused state of mind.  Troubled is used more in the Bible but the only time this translation for a confused state of mind is here in Luke 10 talking about Martha.   In the book of John, “do not let your heart be troubled, is translated as tarasso – to be disquieted in your spirit.

Martha wasn’t mentioned much in the rest of the Bible even though we know Martha was there.  Martha was known as The House of Martha.  Meaning she was about the task.  She was the oldest, it was Martha’s house, etc.

Now lets look at Mary.  Mary was known as The City of Mary.  She was known in town—because she loved the people.  She was all about the person.  She was the first person back at the tomb, she was cautioned by the risen Lord “touch me not because I have not assencended to my Father”.  Mary was always about learning.  Loving people, loving the Father.

In order to be more of a Mary we have to get to the point of Rest in the Father! What a novel idea. Resting in the Father.  Um....I think there may have been a Psalm written about that.

Lets look at Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
You are My Shepherd
Jehovah – Raah – You are my Pastor meaning in Greek
God is your chief Shepherd.
John 10:14 says “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”

I shall not want…You are my Provider
Jehovah – Jireh

He makes me to lie down in green pastures--You are my peace.
Jehovah—Shalom
God does not have peace for you; He is peace!

He restores my soul--You are my healer
Jehovah—Rapha

He leads me in the paths of righteousness--You are my Righteousness
Jehovah—Tsidkenu

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, For you are with me . . .
You are my Constant Companion
Jehovah-Shammah
He is always there.

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;  . . .
You are my Defender
Jehovah—Nissi

You anoint my head with oil . . .
You are my Sanctifier
Jehovah—M’kaddesh

Ladies – all through the history of the Bible women were used to carry the word.  Their names were mentioned all throughout the Bible and in the New Testament they were vital in carrying on the message of Christ whether through out the ministry while Christ was on earth or following.

The list is long!  Don’t ever think that you can’t be used by God to do great things for His glory!

Daily Rest at His feet and Charge your Battery and be ready!
